I recently finished up with making a Whiterun shield from Skyrim. Just before I decided to post this I came across Volpin's Skyrim shield.. Now I feel like a copycat. Especially since I did alot of the stuff he did in his build! I kinda wish I had made a different shield from Skyrim just to add some variety here, but it is a tad late for that now. Lol. I don't really want to post it anymore but oh well.
Anyways I wanted the shield to be able to hang on the wall and be nice and light. So I snooped around home depot and I found some like light fake wood lookin stuff

I took it home and drew some lines in it that kinda made it look like wood.

Of course with the help of my trusty side kick. :)

I was happy when it still looked like a ciricle after I took the jigsaw to it. Man I hate cutting circles

I tried to first carve out the lines with some engraving bit on my dremel but it took like a stinkin hour for like one section and it looked like crud.

So after experimenting with different bits I found the cut off wheels worked the best. I think I ended up burning through the wood more so than cutting it. But it worked haha.

After both the front and the back were cut out I stained the wood to make it look more realistic.
And at this point I totally spaced taking pictures...
But I sandwiched the two sides in between a few layers of cardboard. And I made the rim out of bondo. Which if I may say was kinda a pain. But it looked like this:

And once again at this point I decided pictures were overrated, or more so i forgot to keep my phone with me and snap a few shots.. But while forgetting my phone I did find some yellow paint laying around and put some on.
I was honestly kinda sad to cover up my fake wood. I wanted it to leave it the way it was.
But after that I blew up a logo of the horse and went to town with an xacto knife and made a stencil. Which was a pain. But after watching a third of a season of the x-files(they took Stargate off Netflix so I had to watch something else..) I finally finished the stencil and painted it. And it ended up looking like this.
