Raw materials for ray guns or blasters

Spear guns.

Got these dirt cheap because they have a great look, particularly the yellow one with the holster. Thought they'd make great basis for a blaster or ray gun of some sort, I know some Star Wars weapons were made from spear guns.

Any thoughts on style or what could be done with these? I haven't started playing yet.
