I recently bought this JLong kit that already had the antenna parts completed. I'm normally into the TNG stuff, but recently have been hooked on the original series and this kit looked really fun. I'll update this as I get in a few more pieces. I'm not basing it on any particular version, just taking inspiration from various pieces. Herocomm.com is such a great resource for this build.
Ordered a different speaker grill (mine seemed too silverish) and have been hunting down difference vintage swarovski crystals (harder to find than I thought.) Hoping to get a few pieces with the AB look.
Mostly I've tried to age this thing to appear more used. For the shells I added a very thin coat of black spray paint, just enough to lower the super shine it had out of the box. I then added very thin layers of acrylic medium/paint washes along the edges, dabbing the areas with a paper towel, then sanding them down with 2500 grit sandpaper. This seems to make the texture a little more flat and more pleasant.
Personally, I'd have to say TOS props seem to have a lot more personality than the TNG stuff I've collected.
