While I was working at WB last year the original "Welcome to Smallville" sign was brought into the museum on the lot (though it might not have been the original as I have reason to believe it was used, or at the very least repainted, for the season 5 episode "Mercy", if you care about that sort of thing). I had always wanted a version of this sign and for a week or so I was all about making a replica of it to hang in my kitchen. Weeks passed though, and the project was put aside in favor of life.

Cut to Christmas where as a gift, my father and long time partner in replicating presents me with an unpainted, wooden cut-out of the sign about half-scale. Suddenly, I had my canvas and all I had to do was buy some paint and get to work.

And work I did.

At the same time I was painting, I was also making stencils for the words, rightly not trusting myself to free hand.

In the end, I have a new decoration for the kitchen. Hung it as the center piece of the wall, with my Batman Returns prop newspaper and my replica Time magazine cover from the Smallville pilot (Thanks again Kurtyboy!).
Great fun making this project! Hope you enjoyed it.
