Fallout 3 Stimpak Build

I've been toying around with the idea of trying to build a stimpak for awhile now, but I just got around to starting it this weekend.

Looking at the stimpak from the game, the syringe reminded me more of a veterinarian model than a medical one. (pic 1)

So I tracked down a metal bovine syringe for 10 dollars (pic 2). I purchased a 20 cc model for this first build. This might make it larger than the game model, but it's easier for me to manipulate larger pieces when I'm first figuring stuff out.

I also bought a generic metal steam gauge (pic 3) for 6 dollars. I need to figure out how to pop the glass cover off without completely breaking it. Not to worried about scuffs since this is Fallout - banged up only adds to the overall look.

After I bought these I bored out the steam gauge, removed the top handle from the syringe, and rethreaded the gauge so it could attach to the syringe.

So here's what I have so far (pic 4 & 5).

My goal is to make this as authentic as I can, but also with genuine parts. I hope to not have to use any foam or casting for the parts. I need to find a metal rod next, which will be a challenge. I may have to find to thin pieces and then use the metal that the wiring attaches to as a clamp to hold them together. Maybe. Any suggestions?
