Hey boys and girls,
I have an old ammunition-box (so old that it's made out of wood) which I wanna turn into a coffee-table.
The handles and fittings and other metal things I don't even the names of are still looking pretty good, but started to rust over time. When finishing the table, I want to weather it, but I don't want actual rust on these parts as it will affect the easiness of opening and closing and stuff.
Therefore, I wanna remove the rust and wanted to give the vinegar-method a try (where you just leave the parts in vinegar and rinse it with clear water afterwards), but have two questions:
1. will this method effect the color, or will it really just remove the rust?
2. I've seen tutorials with both, white and red vinegar, to remove rust. As both worked. I always thought that there wasn't any real difference, until I saw a video with Adam Savage about his Blade Runner Blaster and he said something about how to achieve the color of the barrel...can't remember every detail, but the thing was, he said that you have to soak the barrel in WHITE vinegar so I guess there is a difference. My question now is, will really both types work for rust-removal, or is one better than the other?
Thank you in advance
