Hi Everyone!! :) This is my first post so please go easy on me.. haha :)
I saw the Dredd 3D movie recently and loved it so decided to scratch build the Dredd Hero badge... since i feel it is a really cool and modern design that works on film and is sympathetic to the comics.

I decided to laser cut the badge from acrylic sheet as I have access to a laser cutter (I am a Master of Architecture student so I have some model making experience and love making models).

First I drew up the drawings for the badge in Microstation based on the images from the prop store images, since my aim is to have this as movie accurate as possible....

Once the files were complete, I laser cut them from both 2mm thick acrylic sheet and 3mm sheet for the black angled strips as i noticed after studying the images that they sit slightly proud

All the separate segments and letters sit on another piece of 2mm acrylic which i laser engraved to allow the pieces to locate correctly onto the base plate, to make the overall thickness 5mm which appears to be accurate to the images

I then began to sand the 3mm pieces with an inwards chamfer

using a dremel to chamfer the corners of the pieces

I also sanded and polished the bottom pieces either side of the diamond as per the images on the propstore

I then test fitted all of the parts onto the base plate, adjusting where neccessary

Once happy I stuck it all together with liquid solvent cement.. with my another project in the background.. ill talk about this in a later post ;)

At this point I decided to keep this badge in clear acrylic to allow me to make a silicone mould at a later date and make another one to paint....

I then had two Dredd Badges.. one to paint and one to keep in acrylic to allow me to get hopefully get a really clean sharp mould from

And heres the second badge with a coat of primer on... pretty happy with the details :D

I then added the outer rim to both badges...

Next I added base coat of Satin black...

I hope you all like the first installment of my Dredd Badge and I'll be back soon with an update on the paint.. making the silicone mould and building a badge stand that hopefully fits into the Dredd universe :D..

Ryan.
