Designing a Cosmic Cube, some help would be appreciated.

So, first up I'll admit, I am really, really new to this whole prop / model building thing, so any help or advice you can offer me would be gladly accepted.

What I was thinking of making was a Cosmic Cube prop, with 5 of the 6 sides being made as a small infinity mirror, then the interior of the cube being used to house the battery pack for a colour-changing LED strip running through the exterior, resulting in a colour-shifting cube with seemingly impossible interior geometry. I have access to some 2mm perspex which I was thinking of making it out of, with each exterior side being 8" and the interior cube being 6" on each side. Where I'm a bit stuck is that I've not actually worked with perspex much as a material on it's own, so I'm not 100% on what I should be using to bond it.
I'm thinking that to actually construct it I'll make an open 8" cube, then on the 6th side construct the interior cube flush against it and make that the bottom / access panel. Admittedly then the illusion won't work from all sides, but at least then I don't have to worry about constructing two cubes, one suspended inside the other and still having access to the interior to change batteries etc.
I was going to use window mirroring film to achieve the infinity mirror effect within, and maybe slightly matte the exterior to diffuse the lights a bit.

Anyway, that's my initial plan, if anyone with prior experience in making things out of perspex like this can offer any advice I would love to hear from you. Many, many thanks in advance and hopefully I'll be posting pictures of either the finished prop or a mess of parts and a cry for additional advice soon!
