im going to attempt for my first RPF WIP to do a voltron lionforce era ignition key/ badge. i've seen some others on here attempt it and never follow through, so i thought i would try to contribute where others haven't yet. after all who needs another sub standard ironman or batman build thread, i dont and i wont bore ppl with my red hood build, but this could useful.
1st) im no sculpter, despite having a degree in it haha. i have a 2ndary specialization in direct metal, but all honesty it was for welding and braising and working the university foundry, so i suck at sculpting. therefore that limits what i can achieve in my builds, i need to rely on found objects or modifications mostly. or commission others.
2nd) budget, i have a fiance and bills and rent in the dc area, which means i have zero dollars. so i can't buy a 3d printer or anything, so again my stuff is budget bult.
i feel a lot of ppl fall into that catagory of cosplayer or prop maker, so i enjoy posts and advice from my fellow budget builders.
having said that here is what i am planning on doing:
for the key itself, im gonna use a matty collector key as a base, as i got ahold of a sven w/ key for 20 bucks on ebay. u can too. i tried cutting one out of cardboard but its too detailed and i dont really know how id approach the stability. gonna start with this.
now a simple repaint and some craft foam sealed with elmers or jesso will nicely harden up a static key prop. but i would like the design to slide and function.
SDCC13 announced the much awaited voltron model STAND with working prop ignition key...however the key itself is not quite accurate. so i thought i would take a stab at a build. my design is this image i worked up a few days ago.
