Hi guys as some of you know i restore classic cars well i am doing one for my self for once
It will become picture heavy once i pic up a vehicle to use as my base car.
I am doing this thread for people that want to do a movie car on a smaller budget i will be doing this project step by step.
First things first what movie should i use as a refferance
I am choosing the love bug since it was the first film.
Second now i have to study the film and look for certain details Now as some may know herbie is a 1963 bug
but somes budget does not stretch this far so for the purpose of this thread i will be covering the ins and outs on vw bugs
Bugs are known for there rust! They rust every where!!
If you know nothing about vw beetles look them up and watch some videos on first time buying
They rust almost every where water can get to.
I wont be fully restoring the bug i will be aiming to search for a reasonable soild one "Whats that i hear you say?"
a solid one ?
Now ive been and seen some bugs before doing this so i can say that i know my bugs and well dont look on ebay uk
people want to much for a rust bucket.
Look else where as i have.
The good thing with a bug is that you dont have to have a 63 but a 1973 is the cut of point dont go no higher or you cant do the magic trick that i am about to tell you.
You can change some panels with the help of a welder
you cut away the front and rear valence and weld in a 1963 replacement part
then add a 63 bonnet and deck lid, rear and front lights and the fenders/wings
This will give you the look .
Next look for your parts i know that you think just add stickers to a white bug and its done but it is not that simple
The stickers must use the correct font which some people dont.
Also do you use stickers or paint them on ? you can do both but paint will last longer unless you dont use printed
The correct paint colour is L87 which is a pearl white but dont be mistaken the paint has no pearl what so ever.
Now the bright work do you use chrome or stainless its your choice but i prefer stainless since it wont rust/lose its effect.
it is more expensive but is worth it.
Time for a true fact.
Did you know that the interior was painted grey because the white interior was causing a glare on the camera .
Little details
Most people dont do the small details but it will make your car more accurate but the small details may not be legal depending on country and state.
Thats it for now stay tuned for more
