My 7 year old is on a Harry Potter Kick again lately and has been saving up some money to buy a Noble Collection Dumbledore wand. He's starting to collect them. I suggested getting a lathe instead so we could make as many as we want. I ended up borrowing one from my brother this weekend and my son has been really excited to make his own wand so we did it this afternoon. I started with a 3/4" round dowel from Home Depot (about $2.50) and 2 hours later had a passable Elder wand. He's happy with it, which is all that matters. And I don't have to worry about him playing with it and breaking it, as $2.50 is much better than $40. Plus it's real wood.
Anyway, this turned out to be a fun little Sunday afternoon project. And now he's in the other room yelling spells at the dogs. :lol
