I was at a dollar tree earlier today and that old idea I had of learning how to gut electronics and hook them up into props came back to me. I bought a couple cheap little flashlights and did just that. I used the smaller's shell as a handle (the larger one shattered while cutting) and I used the original circuit of the larger one. I actually separated the wire from the switch so that I could feed one end through a skinny neck and re-soldered them. (had to add more metal and solder again for more length) and glued junk under the switch to force it up through a hole and solidify the mechanism.
My favorite part is the front - There were 3 bright LEDs and a resistor (I just don't GET resistors, so I would have no idea how to pick and use one from scratch) attached to a circuit board, so I just used that, slid it into that white plumbing-nut-thing and a piece of random black plastic tubing that was rounded off at one end. then, to get it colored, I used one of those rubber novelty toys....that you turn inside out, lay on a table and they snap up. the LEDs shine right through and it looks like a rather decent copy of something acrylic.
There is even a useless button on the bottom like the Eleventh Sonic :D
Kinda proud that the circuit actually works, I'm still a rookie at this - even after that John long Phaser disaster *facepalm
Though...now that I look at this, it's a little Dalek-y...uh oh..
