Hello to all,

Here is a quick tutorial on how to cast a mold using smooth-On products. I got this tutorial from a Youtube video. The link will be at the bottom of this post.

Steps for Casting A brush on mold
----------------------------------

1) Secure the Model

2) Apply SuperSeal to all surfaces

3) Apply Universal Mold Release to all surfaces

4) Dispencse equal amounts of Bursh-On 40

5) Mix mold rubber ( Tip: Use a pigment color ever coat )

6) Apply Mold Rubber ( bursh on thin coat for good detail )

7) Allow Rubber to "Gel" until tacky at room temp ( 72f or 22c ) for 30 to 40 minutes

8) Mix and apply a second layer of Brush-0n 40

9) Allow Rubber to "Gel" until tacky at room temp ( 72f or 22c ) for 30 to 40 minutes

10) Make parting shims around the model and in deep inditations
( Tip: To Thickin Rubber, add Cab-O-Sil to Bursh-On 40, use popsicle stick or tongue depresser )

11) Apply a third layer of rubber, DO NOT ADD THICKENER TO THIS COAT

12) Allow Rubber to "Gel" until tacky at room temp ( 72f or 22c ) for 30 to 40 minutes

13) Using a thikened rubber, build up parting shims and indented areas again

14) Mix and apply a fourth layer of rubber

15) Allow all layers to cure overnight at room temperature ( 72f or 22c )

16) Applying the Support Shell " The Mother Mold "
* Draw Parting lines on the mold ( Areas where you are going to seperate the cast )
* Use Modeling clay to make support parting shims
* Apply clay supports to the other side
* Fill in any open areas in the parting shims and smooth the clay
* Complete the clay shim around the entire mold ( do the previous steps to the other side )
* Use a sculptor's tool or a paper clip to carve registration keys into the clay
* Apply Sonite Wax over the rubber surface, clay shims, and base
* Apply Universal Mold Release
* Measure and Mix Plasti-Paste II ( Mix Ratio: 1 part A to 2 parts B by volume )
* Apply Pasti-Paste II to the mold rubber ( Let Cure About 90 Minutes )
* Remove the Clay Shim
* NOTE: if you have more then two sections to your model just repeat step 16 for the other sections

17) Demold and remove the shell segments
* Remove the Rubber mold ( Tip: Cut carfley with a exacto blade, have an assistant help you to pull the oppisite side for easier seperation

18) Apply Universal Mold Release to all surfaces
* Seat the rubber mold into the shell
* Secure the mold with clamps, rubber bands, or drill holes in the shell to bolt together
* Mix and poor Matrix Neo Castying System into the mold ( Mix Ratio: 2 parts A to 1 part B by volume )
* Rotate and turn the model untill the Casting System has completly coverd the rubber mold
* Add a second layer to the rubber mold
