I used reference pictures from both the short as well as the making of documentary on the Pixar Shorts DVD to help me figure out how the original model was made and nail down accuracy.

The model was achieved by taking simple spheres and applying a decimate modifier to make it lumpy and then a subsurf modifier to make it all smooth. I think substituting fractals on the model would make it even more lumpier, but I'd have to experiment a bit. Hope you all like it!
