Something I always wanted to do, so I figured I'd make it as realistic as possible with tile.

I'm using foam core as the base so the tiles had enough height to meet the quarter round at the same level.

Once everything is dry I will trim off the surrounding foam core and attach it to a plexi base.
Next up are the seashells, which should be in hand in a week.

Here is a Dharma Initiative "The Orchid" hard hat from an episode of Lost called "Because you left."
It is the correct brand of hard hat and everything. I may make one from the construction of The Swan later.

AKIRA power bike-based electric bike build

$

Hi Guys! I don't know if this is the right forum to post this on, but I figured theRPF is THE most awesome building community so I wanted to post it here. last year I finished my electric motorcycle conversion (The Mark 1!) and after testing it out I came to realize that electric motorcycles can take other shapes different from ICE bikes, so I finally decided to start The Mark 2, which will be an electric motorcyle based on the visual concept of Kaneda's power bike from the anime Akira. For those unfamiliar with the bike here are some pictures:

I'm designing the bike to have:

System Voltage: 96 v
Range: 105 Km aprox. (66 mi)
Top speed: over 100 Kph (62.5 mph)
Tires: RIM 21
single seat
LED lighting
Android powered dashboard
more goodies.

Let me know what you think. :)

Making a scratch built Proton Pack for Halloween

$

With the new Ghostbusters movie out, I decided to scratch build a Proton Pack for Halloween. I will be going with the original Proton Pack from the 1984 movie, although I don't intend to make it a perfect movie accurate pack. I have a little less than a month and a half until the Employee Costume Party, and I have to make two of these packs!

I've started with a piece of roofing foam that I've had kicking around for years. In the past, I've used them for gravestones during Halloween, but now they are being re-purposed for the Cyclotron shown above. The foam was pretty banged up, so I glued poster-board to the primary surfaces with the glossy side facing out. Once it's painted, it should look like metal.

The Thing Flamethrower Build

So my boyfriend decided to go as R.J. MacReady for Spooky Empire as well as Halloween and obviously he needs a flamethrower. I've found build threads to be really helpful in the past so hopefully this will help out someone!!

I'm using this video from Knoptop and this thread to help.
So far we've found two large containers at the dollar store for the main tanks, two plungers to make the tops of the tanks rounded, and a smaller spray bottle for the smaller tank. We also got a cap gun at Five Below, but I forgot to take pictures before I painted it.

We also bought 5 feet of 1/2 inch pvc pipe (we might need more), 4 elbow brackets, 3 tees. Basically we're gonna follow the linked thread for that part of the build. I'll post more info when we actually get to that part.

Currently, we have glued together the plungers and containers and have begun to prime everything. I'll post some pictures of it all primed and covered in bondo later.

Next steps are to sand it all and I think I want to do some layers of mod podge over everything.

I'd really appreciate any feedback/help/advice on this build. We are also working on the rest of the costume so reference images and information are greatly appreciated though I think this thread has all the info we really need!

Hello all. I was hoping maybe there are some gun experts here that could help me ID 2 handguns. I don't have much knowledge with guns so any help is appreciated. I've pulled all the best photos I could find of each. Normally I just go to imfdb, but this movie isn't in the database.

I started working on my EMH badge. I 3d modeled it from an image I found on the internet and printed it out on my 3d printer.
I am wondering what paint I should use to cover it.

Instead of velcro like the screen versions I am using 2 magnets to hold it onto the sleeve.

One thing I'm working on right now is the side hoses. The hoses sent with the kit aren't quite accurate, the hoses seem to be more triangular-ribbed as seen in the below concept art.

Anyone have a good idea of where to source hoses like that? Closest I've found so far is gas mask hoses, like this. Though they seem more rounded. Any ideas?

ID:	665992This is the best image I could get. I've searched extensively and can't find any info. The knife that is used at the end, does anyone know which brand and/or model it is? There's a point earlier in the film where the servant is preparing some food and I think the same knife might be used then as well. Not knowing much about kitchen cutlery, I'm guessing it is a Japanese knife, perhaps one used for sushi. That's all I've got. If anyone has any more insight I'd love to hear it. Thanks

I've got some high res screen grabs so the first step will be drawing up some plans and figuring out the scale. Most of the woodwork shouldn't be too hard but there are a lot of other details which will require a bit more work.
Will keep you posted on progress!

Can I use silicone lubricant as a release agent for a 2-part mold?

Hello guys, my name is Olivier, I have been browsing this forum for a while as a spectator, I have seen amazing stuff, so inspiring. I have never posted because I don't have anything to show yet.

I live in belgium and I'm a 3d modeler, I work in the animation and video game industry. I have wanted to turn to real prop making for a long time. I have done a lot of research (including on this forum, it's a gold mine of info) and watched a bunch of tutorials about molding and casting and now I feel I'm ready to give it a shot. I'm going to start small, tiny objects, and slowly progress to a full scale helmet that I'm currently modeling (maybe I'll do a slush cast, but since it's in multiple parts I might just cast it normally, don't know yet).

last week I finally ordered everything I needed to make my first molds. Or so I thought. I forgot to get some mold release agent (like Ease Release, the brand most people recommend) to make two parts molds. I know 2-part molds is not the very first thing you want do, but I want to try before ordering more materials (want to make sure I can do it before ordering 2 gallons of resin).

Sure, I could just run another order just for mold release, but since I live in Belgium, this thing is not easy to come by, the closest dealer in Europe is in Netherlands (that's where I got my smooth-on silicone and resin from). Ordering just a can would not be worth it, shipping would cost as much as the can itself.
So until I run another big order, I'm looking for alternate solutions, like something I can find at an automotive or hardware store.

Since Ease Release is silicone based, I was wondering if I could just use some generic silicone lubricant, like this one : https://www.brico.be/fr/atelier-mat%...400-ml/5317901
Do you think this would be enough to prevent the two mold parts from bonding together?
Unless you guys have better solutions, I'll give it a shot, on a small scale test. If it does not work, then I'll just order the real thing.
It really sucks, because other that this, I really have everything I need to start!

Thank you in advance for your help,

Olivier

Someone has asked me about getting the handles for the seven daggers of meggido from The Omen, would anyone have a source or be able to point me in the right direction for just the handles? I know I've seen them around, thanks in advance for any assistance!
