prop chainsaw

hey everyone i apologize for my spelling and grammar. this started with a idea couple years ago about parts of chainsaws put together into one and i wanted smoke for exhaust and sound effects triggered by buttons but looks like someone in a barn build it. so i started gathering parts and fabricating . first i cut up the original handle and bent some bar stock to extend the handle and wrapped in camo material.

i knew i wanted it light so i had to fab a side plate for muffler after i found a aluminum bar cover and made muffler mount out of styrene

next was the bar, to keep it light i made it out of some display polystyrene. the story of the chain is i wanted it to look real so i knew i either had to mold a silicone flexible copy of a real chain and that would be a lot of work, or hand fabricate out of styrene a plastic chain but then it wouldn't be safe. So i was at a Halloween store getting ideas and i saw the 50 buck plastic fake chainsaw on the shelf busted up and a employee swooped in to grab it off the shelf and said "some kids broke this yesterday, i'll get it out of your way" thats when i saw the chain and offered to buy it,well she gave it to me for free and i ended up buying some fake blood. so when i designed the bar i made a track for the chain to slide into so it would epoxy all the way around.i made a bracket out of license plate to screw to chainsaw to mount 3 bolts to fasten the bar.

so then i started gathering parts for the guts. i used a $10 amazon bluetooth speaker in which i soldered a remote play/pause button to be in the handle and soldered a on/off switch in between the battery and the board. i ran a usb cord out of the side to charge it when low. for the smoke machine i used some parts of ecig tank and a 3volt air pump hooked to a momentary switch and on/off switch so u can turn off power to both circuits and momentary to trigger it next to handle, both using a ecig 4v battery.

during final testing of circuits i had problems with the ecig smoke machine so i have left it out for the time being to diagnose the problem, hopefully i can get it working. after working on the wiring and problem solving for half a day i decided to assemble and weather it to make some progress

so its not done yet, still a work in progress just wanted to get it up on the site. hope everyone likes it and hopefully i can narrow down problems with ecig smoke machine but it still sounds awesome with the loud speaker and i can run a playlist of chainsaw sounds from my phone and control it with the button next to the handle where the tape is. I wrapped the handle with some suede scraps to give it a raw look. oh btw i added some gore by soaking tissue in liquid latex to add near the bar and the body, still working on color for blood. all of the weathering is acrylic paint, rub-n-buff and spray paint misted on. its taking me this long to do it cause i love working with hand tools, only used a grinder and a dremel for the fabricating of side panels to fit otherwise it was hand files sand paper and patience lol. thanks for looking.

Vac formed proton pack

I originally built these vacuum bucks years ago, not really knowing anything about the process. I made one pack back then, and the bucks just sat in box afterwards. Finally got around to rebuilding them, and I'm glad I waited so long to come back to the project. I know much more about the vac forming process, have upgraded my FrankenFormer 3 times since that first pack, and I have a dedicated shop.

Tow Mater from CARS

A good friend of mine bought this truck out of FL last year. Went through it and replace the transmission and AC so we could drive it down to Cruisin the Coast last weekend. Thought I would share it with you guys. While down there we met a fellow who built a great Ecto 1. Talk about a crowd pleaser, I could barely drive this truck from LA to MS without someone swerving along side of me trying to snap pics out the window.

[3D Printing] Fallout 4 10mm Pistol build

I've been lusting after a Fallout 4 10mm pistol to add to my prop collection for awhile, and decided to go ahead with a build now that I have cleared my table of other projects. I'm using these files: https://www.myminifactory.com/object...m-pistol-10475

For those not in the know, this is what the final result is supposed to look like:

I've gone ahead and starting printing, after a few of the metal components I decided to try my hand at printing off some wood grips using wood filament in my printer (Replicator 2X). The results were actually pretty amazing I think:

Going to do the other half of the grip tomorrow then glue them together; the original file was one grip in one part, but printing in halves allows for a simulated "wood grain" effect. Will keep posting as I make progress on this project.

Fifth Element Korben Dallas Blaster

Okay so the story behind this is I simply stumbled across it on some movie prop auction site, no one had bidded on it so I thought eh why not....Ended up getting it for $60aus plus shipping HOORAh.
Okay so the problem with that however is I live In Victoria Australia which probably has the strictest gun laws in the world and trying to import anything even remotely resembling the shape of a fire arm gets red flagged. I know in other states you can fill out some form and send it off to get your movie prop weapons If they pass some test but Victoria is particularly strict as I know from experience!
Anyway I figured for the price I ended up scoring it for it was worth the risk as Ive seen these things pop up from time to time from anything to $500-1000. In the listing it stated that the inner electronics were non functioning but yeah whatever haha.
A few months go by and i just accept the fact that it got snatched by customs and forget all about it....Well did I have a surprise waiting for me out the front for me today! Took almost 3 months but somehow it made it here and even the electronics are functioning to further enhance my joy haha.
I made a custom stand for it and just thought I'd show off some pics and vent my excitement. Ive currently got a Pulse Rifle in its final stages which I built from scratch, just need a really good Lawgiver from Judge Dredd and my geek armory will be complete. Click image for larger version.

Jurassic Park Rain Coat Decal Glue Help

$

I picked up the rain coat from harbor freight and had a friend make up some vinyl decals for the jacket. The issue I'm having is the glue does not like to hold down on sharp corners. I'm sure it will be ok for taking my son trick or treating in but would really like to have it last.

So far I have tried mod podge over the decal + 1/4" on the rain coat and that does better but still fairly easy to get a corner to peal up. I have some weld bond on it now that I applied this morning that I will check when I get home from work.

The other option could be this glue from loctite around the edges or maybe even under it.

Any one else have any ideas or experiences?

BTTF Courthouse - Looking for HiRes File for Backdrop

Hi,

has anyone a source for a BTTF 1 or 2 courthouse backdrop high resolution file? I think there may be some out there, but the persons who have big ones could not or wanted not to tell me how or where they got it. I tried a bit with screenshots from DVD (I don't have bluray) and PSE but realized I don't have the skills to get something out of that that looks somehow good :-(

Maybe someone here can help me out? Or any idea of another cool BTTF themed backdrop? Doc's garage maybe?

Thank you for your kind help! Regards

3D printer blueprints and templates question

Hi folks.

I don't know if this question has been asked before so if it has please kindly point me in the right direction of the thread without giving in to the urge of giving me a huge slap across the face. :)

Ok so today I bought a 3D printer and I am now looking for templates or blueprints or (whatever they are called) Iron Man suits and any other various DC and Marvel characters.

Can anyone recommend any sites or do you have any yourselves?

I am new to the who 3D side of things as usually I have made things via the sorcery of Pepakura.

Many thanks.

Bazz :)

Newb Kevin Harrington introducing myself - Self-Creating Animatronics and more!

Hello all!
Money shot to start off:

I am a full time roboticist, and part time animatronics enthusiast. Wearing my roboticist hat, i wrote BowlerStudio a tool that lets kids design and print out complex walking robots. It exposes a few design hooks to redesign any of the robots with slide bars, test it in a physics engine, and then print out a working walking robot. And its free and open source.

For halloween this year i wanted to get back into an old passion of mine. Since i was little i have loved animatronics. I grew up watching Movie Magic, and spent many hours with solid core wire, pliers and hot glue to make my own animatronic creations. (wow, i googled and apparently pictures exist??) I was lucky enough to intern for Jim Hensons Creature Shop, automated my desk job, and got time to hang out with all the animatronics builders, learning a few tricks from them.

So this year, to celebrate the Great Maker Holiday I created a script for generating animatronics mechanisms. You open it in BowlerStudio and it presents you a tiny (about baby head sized) animatronic mech with independent pan/tilt on each eye, a jaw, an (almost complete) blink.

And then you cut it out and attach servos and it moves:

Here's the best part, its parametric with slide bars and drop downs too!

Attach different servos and it moves too

and the progress so far on the jaw:

I am hoping for a group costume at our makerspace, we made 4 of the wearable heads, 2 are doing WHere The Wild things are, one is doing an Ork from Warhammer 40k and the last is using a small head to make a muppet.

I am keeping a blog for this years halloween build on hacakaday.io that i will be keeping up to date this month during the build.

Hi guys this is my first full post of a build, I have already posted it on my Facebook page but thats only available to friends. The build is based on the Mines of Moria helmet from The Hobbit movie "The Battle of the Five Armies". The Pepakura is featured on http://www.papercraftsquare.com/ and the paper model is created by Sergey Lvovich, it is a beautiful piece of work by Sergey, so thank you for sharing it. Here is the pep in it's raw state. I left off some of the front mouth/chin guard because I wanted a more Celtic look to the helmet.

This is a coin I was asked to make on Shapeways. It says NO ONE SEES NO ONE SPEAKS NO ONE HEARS NO ONE KNOWS

He had a picture of an existing coin, and I made the 3D file from that.

I like the images of the lips and ears....rather surreal.

My mostly Back to the Future prop collection

Now that I finally have a proper place to display my collection, I feel like it's finally time to share it with you all! I recently moved to a 3 story condo - the 3rd story being a loft that I'm using to display all of my stuff. Before I got into props, I collected vinyl toys and anything and everything that had to do with pop culture. You'll still see some of that stuff since I'm using it as placeholders for some props that are coming.

I kept delaying this post because it didn't feel complete since I'm waiting on some more things, but I can always add onto this. So here we go!

Starting with the stairs that lead up to the loft...

The Hobbit Coin Props

In the "The Hobbit" movies, multiple designs were used for the dwarven coins. Unfortunately, only 5 of these designs are available for purchase. I've caught glimpses of other designs, such as when, in the BOtFA EE, Alfred drops a coin onto the trigger plate of the trebuchet. My hope is to get all of the designs modeled in a CAD software so that anyone could 3D print them ( 3D printing in metal would look almost perfect) or, based on the designs, make molds to cast parts from resin. Or I could at least make computerized sketches, so that people could reference those easily. For that I'll need to collect as many close-up coin screenshots and photos from the movies, the bonus features, the design sketches, or anything else featuring any coins not in the sets already released. I'll be looking for these, but if you can find any of these, can you please post them?
