Hi all! Just finished up my first batch of Necronomicon Skins! They are latex painted with acrylics, for durability and feel I cast the latex with a layer fiberglass mat. They are made to fit a 5in x8in. sketchbook, should have some pictures of it applied on a book shortly. Thanks for looking!

1989 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Jurassic Park Jeep #10
Just picked up a Sahara with the five speed, plan on doing #10. Its in good condition, needs a windshield and some minor rust bubbling fixed. I have stock wheels already, so I am on my journey to make a decent replica, not perfect, but at least a 10 footer. I am thinking about using plastidip, for both the tan and the red. This is due to the fact that I don't want to be committed to Jurassic Park theme for my whole ownership of the vehicle. It is not my daily, so it can sit in the garage most the time. As long as I get 6 months out of the plastidip I will be happy. I may look into wraps as well. Here are some pictures of what I have.

ecl's Kermit the Frog Puppet Replica, version 4!
I just finished up my 4th Kermit Puppet build. It never seems to end, as I'm always seeing things that need to be improved. This time, it was the shape and material of the mouth-plate that motivated me to make this one, along with a scale modification after I spent some time studying an original Kermit up close in an exhibition here early this year. Kermit looked surprisingly small in person--not much bigger than the MR replicas Kermit. I redid most of my patterns, especially the head, as this time I used rubber as the mouth-plate material, giving him a wider range of emotions. Overall, this Kermit is also slightly smaller than my earlier builds--even closer to the original I observed. Even then, he is still just over two feet in height. Materials used, except for the rubber mouth-plate, are the same as previous builds: antron fleece from "Puppet Pelts" (a great shop), black adhesive velvet, ultrasuede (red), jewelry wire (fingers), felt, 35mm domes (Puppet Pelts).
I'll start with the pics of the final result:

Some progress photos below! I'm not releasing the new patterns for this build, as it just took far too much work on them to get to this point, however, the modifications were done to the patterns I've previously posted on my earlier Kermit build. I'll eventually write up a few tips/tutorials on how to customize the head pattern to your own hand.
Pattern Bag: It took me 6 different designs to arrive at the head that you see on this build. Most of the changes were small, but made big differences!

The feet are based more on the iconic Kermit feet than the earlier flat looking style that I used on my previous build.

Arm/hands patterns were upgraded by combining the palm with the arm (like the MR pattern). A bit more streamlined than my earlier pattern.

Styrene "palm" insert. The finger wires were hooked and then epoxied into the plate for more security.

The eyes are 35mm domes (scaled down from the 40mm ping pongs I'd used on my previous builds), purchased from "Puppet Pelts", and then painted. I also modified the attachment in the back with a nylon screw and nut, as I wanted them to be removable. At some point I may sand down the profile of the nut so that it is less intrusive on the performer's hand.

Giving the felt a slightly yellow tint. I wanted the felt to have a slightly more lime appearance with a hint of yellow, to make it look more like some of the earlier Kermits. The exhibition one I saw had a collar similar to this color:

Star Trek (2009) POLICE OFFCIER | mask + badge
Every Star Trek (2009) rewatch is to me reminder to make this helmet. So I finally motivated myself and for last few days I'm working 1-2 hours per day on this model. Geometry on this helmet is very misterious. There's very limited source material (besides few shots from movie, and one concept art I couldn't find more). It gets even more strange when I compare front view with side views. En face mask seems to be quite flat, but on CGI shots those grooves and shapes are very strong and deep. So I'm trying to find golden mean between thouse two images.

My collection... So far.
Hello everyone, This is my first post so I figured I'd start by sharing my collection with you. I've been dropping eaves around here for a few years now and finally decided I'd share some pics of what I've gathered so far. Some things were made by members on here, others were found elsewhere (eBay, etsy, local stores). Let me know what you think. I can handle criticism and advise is always welcome.

Star Trek Discovery Phaser from MacFarlane Toys: dates and orange tip ?
Hello All:
From Wondercon 2018.. I asked a question re: MacFarlane Star Trek Phaser and was told:
a) Depending on where in the U.S.A. you live, the phaser shipped to you may or may not have an orange tip due to state toy gun laws..does anyone have confirmation of this ? which states are impacted by this ?
b) that this phaser will be available in the Fall (not Winter) of 2018...anyone have confirmation of this ?
Thanks

Casting Vytaflex in a rubber mold.
I have some Mold Max 30 molds that I've been trying pour Vytaflex 60 into for some urethane casts. However, I keep getting poor results with the final product being flimsy and tacky. I'm thinking that the issue might be a reaction between the two rubbers? Is there a better rubber to use for the mold that will allow me greater success when casting with Vytaflex?

My boss wears a mask many days in a row
My boss has a silicone mask that he wears many days in a row. He uses remover and my concern is his skin. He shaves his head bald. That's just his style. So I want to know what skin care routine I can incorporate into his daily routine. He uses a remover that the mask maker gave him, but I don't know how long he's supposed to use it. He wears the mask for a few hours several times in a week. Is there something I can do? Are there any signs of skin degradation I can keep an eye out for? He's in his mid 40's and African American if that makes any difference.

Doctor Who: Final page of the "Melody Malone" book
Hi RPF -
Just a quick one, made another DW prop - this time I decided to replicate the final page of "The Angel's Kiss" which The Eleventh Doctor tears out and then recovers from a trash can.
Or rather, reproduce it, at there isn't a really good view of it in the episode. I therefore decided to look at pulp novels of the same-ish kind and go from there. I also have an old book - a Robin Hood retelling - which I used for reference on discoloration and texture.
The coloration is mostly just coffee (Merrild instant, for anyone taking notes) and tea. Did some splotching using a brush, and also manipulated the wet paper a bit to make the coffee/tea water "pool" along the edge to make it a wee bit darker. For paper I tried with some unbleached letter paper, and another kind which was dyed slightly yellow - but in the end the best result, I think, came with regular 80g white inkjet paper. Pulp novels are printed on crap paper, after all.
Posting my print files, too, if anyone wants to have a go.
As usual I forgot to take proper "finished" pics before gifting it to my kid, the DW fan (I fear she's outgrowing our shared fandom, though not for my lack of cultivating it ;) ) - so there's just the one.
:)

Question about Prop Measurements
So I've gotten back into prop making after getting a 3D Printer. As such, I wanted to open a general question about obtaining measurements for prop designing. I apologize if there is discussion elsewhere on this topic, I couldn't find any.
I know the general process is to obtain a plethora of reference photos, blow them up, and just meticulously measure relative dimensions against known dimensions and estimates.
I was curious any tricks or best practices people in the community have come up with.
I was also curious about tools or software that could be utilized to improve the process.
One piece of software I'm researching is Fiji/ImageJ (https://fiji.sc/) (https://imagej.net/Welcome). It's a open-source suite of tools for analyzing images in Science (Fiji is a preconfigured distro of ImageJ). Most of the functionality isn't applicable, but it does have measurement capability where you can draw a line and assign that to a known scale, then draw other lines and polygons over the image and get the relative dimensions. The interface leaves a lot to be desired, and I'm struggling to do basic things like get the lengths of all the sides of a polygon, labeling and editing lines later, saving and restoring a work session, and relating dimensions against multiple images.
An ideal software I think would be able to load multiple images in a work session, draw and label lines and polygons, link scale lines between images (say I can determine scale of a detail at one angle against a known dimension, and then scale another angle view against the detail I calculated), and maybe do some basic perspective correction. All of this could then give me a dimension list for modeling in Fusion360.
I'm not sure if this can be accomplished with other existing software such as Fusion 360 or FreeCAD.
So thoughts?
