Doopy Doos problems...

$

Hi,
I hope I'm posting this in the right area, if not let me know.

I know this issue has come up before but I am having trouble ordering from Doopy Doos.
I have been trying to place an order for a DL44 kit for weeks but I have been having some problems with payment on the site. I emailed them but (as seems to be the norm with Doopy Doos), I got no reply.

I am trying to pay by credit card but I am only being given the option to pay by PayPal or by cheque.
Has anyone else had this trouble and how was it resolved? I can't see any way to get it resolved if I can't get any replies from the company.
I know people have said on here before that while communication with DD is terrible they do send out the orders. The problem I am having is placing the order in the first place!!

Thanks for any help,
Dave.

Aliens Pulse rifle digital print build with sound and working counter.

Hi. This is my first attempt at anything like this so I'm just going to wing it.
Ever since I first saw Aliens like 20 years ago ive always wanted my own pulse rifle. Living in Victoria Australia with such strict gun laws acuiring a screen accurate replica is near impossible. Most of the resin builds ive seen havent really won me over either. I really wanted one that could play the sound aswell as have a working trigger, counter and ejectable mag.
Ive recently acquired a digital print in several pieces aswell as a toy Thompson sub machine gun with ejecting mag that i plan to Frankenstein together along with the appropriate digital triggers. I will post pics of my progress in the comments.
Wish me luck :)Click image for larger version.

Canes for husband

$

Hey all. First time poster, but long time stalker.

My husband is returning from his last tour of duty, but not because of the greatest of circumstances. His right foot was irreversibly disabled. So from now on he is going to have to walk with a cane or some kind of assistance equipment.

I figured that when he gets home in December I could gather him up a couple cool replica canes. Maybe lift his spirits a little bit.

I originally thought of getting him a off the shelf Biff fist cane. But apparently they are stupidly rare, or when they are listed on Etsy they sell immediately.

So I was wondering if you guys could help me come up with some ideas for prop replica canes, wizard staffs, etc. Something easy to make, or somewhat inexpensive to buy. Have a 6 and 1 year old that make craft time rather short, and with all the things we have to change in the house as well as medical related things the budget isn't big. For some reason the Military doesn't like to approve "novelty" canes lol

I have seen this community find some of the most obscure tiny things out of nowhere... So I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask for something seemingly easy wouldn't be a problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Scammer Alert: Docking Bay Studios (formerly Imperial Replicas)

I didn't want to have to create a warning as I was hoping everything would end well but unfortunately it has not. Please be wary of any future transactions with Docking Bay Studios (formerly Imperial Replicas). They used to seem on the up and up, I even got a kit from them not too long ago. However the second kit I had with them has not been delivered.

After getting no response about it for some time I made a claim in paypal and received an email from them within hours asking why I did this and that I had not paid in full. I pointed out that I had and provided the relevant transaction ID. I was then told that the person was "not responsible for the book keeping" (I assume there was multiple people on the team, and the one responsible is no longer with them?) but if I still wanted it it could be shipped on the 28th with tracking and photos. I responded back that that I would like to do this but I could not close the claim as if I close it I cannot reopen it again however the seller has 20 days to get it to me and if shipped by the 28th (the day they suggested) or even the end of the week that would be ample time. I did not get any update since and have not gotten any responses to my email sent Thursday morning or this morning asking for the status. I'm not sure if the response was a bid to get me to close the claim (thereby giving up the chance of getting the money back) or was at least meant at the time but since I have received no updates and they seem to be ignoring me such I have been forced to escalate it to Paypal. Hopefully I can retrieve my money.

If you currently have any money tied up with Docking Bay Studios or Imperial Replicas I suggest you try get in contact with them and do not let your PP payments cross over the 6 month threshold for making a claim, or possibly start it now if you are so inclined and are like me unable to get a response. And be wary of any future products solicited under Docking Bay Studios (they have a few coming it seems). If you do have any money still tied up with them I wish you the best of luck.

If anyone does feel like I have not provided enough information and needs more "evidence" before getting worried and creating a PP claim I understand (anybody can cry wolf). Feel free to contact me and I can forward you the email chain/screenshots whatever you prefer.

Help: Leaking brush-on silicone mold

Hello all!

Figured you guys might have some solutions for my first ever mold I've built.
I have been testing my mold to see if it is airtight, with water, and despite my greatest efforts, the water just keeps leaking like crazy, and I am definitely not going to proceed with resin until I know it is water tight!

Attached are pictures of my mold and half the mold jacket.
Any advice for a mold newbie?

I am working on a costume for my son for halloween. (quick question about wiring)

If this is not the correct place to post this could somebody let me know. I could not find an area for just for electronic wiring.
I have two of these computer fans.

and these are its specs

These have to be mobile (being used as part of a Halloween costume)

I have two questions.

*Note these do not have to be running all the time. I am going to have them connected to a trigger to just press and let go as needed.

Can I just use an 8 AA battery holder (one for each fan) to power these. Second can they be wired together to be turned on by one switch?

Would be the perfect reference to build a 3d model to print, clean up and then cast in metal.

Unfortunately it's too low resolution to read the dimensions or trace the engraving pattern etc.

Does anyone know where this image is from or have access to a higher resolution version?

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans silver whip

Hello all. New to the forum here. I am not an artist in any way. I'm posting in hopes someone can point me in the right direction. I am looking for a replica of the silver tipped whip used to punish Lucian in the Underworld:Rise of the Lycans movie. Soren is the character's name I believe that makes the whips/weapons in the series. Just wondering if anyone has seen or knows of anyone that makes and sells this. Google was not a lot of help. Thanks for any advice.

Aliens slime

Does anybody know a cheap and easy method to reproduce the slime or "secretions" seen in the alien films? Specifically the kind seen in aliens that spunkmeyer touches before the dropship takes off, that sticky stretchy slime. I can't find that particular scene in online but here are a few screenshots:

http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/...20150106034607

http://www.top10films.co.uk/img/spunkmeyer_aliens.jpg

It doesn't need to be the same exact substance they used, but I need something that looks similar, is sticky/stretchy, and not too hard to clean off.

I know this isn't exactly a prop but if you guys have any tips on how to reproduce the slime I would be very grateful!

Alien Disentegrator Ray Weapon - 1958 - Invaders from Space - Gun

Well - There a more than a few classic science fiction movies most of this generation has likely never seen. One of the worst titles ever given to a decent film was the 1958 CLASSIC - I married a Monster From Outer Space. The title was terrible - but the film was worth watching. I had to add a scratch build Alien Weapon to my collection - I did not stick exactly to cannon. It is still a work in progress. But the project is far enough along for a few pics. If you want to see the movie - here are a couple of links:

TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOGLDZIvI9Y
Movie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1eOwvXld3g

PICS: SEE BELOW. The Design is simple. I modified the design from the film in a few small ways that suit my taste. There is more paint, filler, and texturing to follow. I may do a cannon version some day. But I had fun making it. Please tell me what you think. Not everyone likes the RETRO look. But I thought this was a cool design for 1958.

WIP help needed. Book of the dead page info

$

Hi guys, so im finally getting around to continuing my book of the dead/living from the mummy. I finished the main parts years ago which consisted of the front and back cover, the clamps, binding parts, the seal and key and 4 side pieces. The seal has the beetle right now (and i planned on making one with the eye too for the book of amun ra). It is the same as what you all are use to seeing. Basically a faux hollow book. I was thinking of actually doing the pages like the movie instead but cant seem to find any reference to what was on the pages. Im able to see a page from screen grabs, but not enough to confidently make it accurate. Plus, there are still other pages. From what i see, it looks like there are 4 pages plus cover and bottom. I already have the mold for the pages and many different characters of hieroglyphics, i just need to see their arrangements on the pages plus any artwork. Does anyone have or know where to find this info? I have 2 weeks free for the first time in years and would love to finish this. And if i make copies id gladly remember those who helped :) . Thank you all.

Finishing the surface of props in hard to reach areas...How do you do it?

$

I've had my own techniques for the past years, but man I cannot tell you how frustrating it can be to have to re-work a tiny, recessed area. Lately I've found myself becoming significantly more critical of making every last piece of a prop surface (my case, a clone helmet as of late) as close to perfect as possible.

My issue is that I have giant hands, and perhaps my available tools are limited? I feel like a neanderthal trying to clean up/smooth out some of these hard to reach crevicess and recessed portions.

This could apply to application of spot putty too. I was thinking of trying to find those fine-sculpting tools and perhaps those silicone-tip ones I've seen before.

I guess I would like to know how you guys deal with it? It's easy for me to say "oh, I'll cover it with weathering" but I just can't do that anymore as my OCD is getting worse as I age
